Top 10 Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the Laredo Trade Tag?

The Laredo Trade Tag is a convenient, safe and practical form of toll payment when crossing the border. This Automatic Vehicle Identification (AVI) system is like having exact change every time you need it.

2. How does the Laredo Trade Tag work?

The Laredo Trade Tag operates using an electronic transponder, installed on the windshield inside your vehicle. As you pass through the bridge, an overhead antenna reads the transponder and automatically debits the correct toll amount from your prepaid AVI account. The light turns green, the gate goes up, and you continue on your way.

3. How do I enroll in the Laredo Trade Tag?

You may print the application from our web page at www.laredotradetag.com. Complete the application, mail it, or fax it(for Non-Commercial Accounts please fax application to 1-956-729-2084, for Commercial Accounts please fax application to 1-956-2064)with payment to any of our Laredo Trade Tag Customer Service Centers. Or you may call 1-866-LDO-TTAG (1-866-536-8824) to request that an application be mailed to you. You can also visit any of our Customer Service Centers.

4. Do I need to pay a deposit and minimum payment?

Yes, a deposit of $35.00 is required for each transponder. Plus a minimum account balance is required depending on the estimated amount of bridge crossings for your vehicles, both commercial and non-commercial.

5. What if my transponder is lost, stolen or damaged?

If your transponder is lost or stolen, you must call or visit the Laredo Trade Tag Customer Service Center during business hours, just as you would if a credit card was lost or stolen. We will deactivate your transponder immediately upon notification of its loss. A new transponder will be sent to you within three working days of our receipt of your transponder replacement fee. To replace the lost or stolen transponder you will be required to pay the full cost of $35. Credit Card accounts will be charged $35 for missing or damaged transponders. Your account number will remain the same.

6. How do I know when my account is low?

The Laredo Trade Tag system tracks your bridge usage and account balance and shows your account status by way of the red, yellow and green traffic lights in the toll lanes. The green light signifies that your account has sufficient funds and the transaction has occurred. The yellow light means your account has a low balance and you need to deposit money in the account promptly. The red light means there is either no balance in the account, or there is a problem with the account or transponder, when this occurs; please contact the Customer Service Center as soon as possible.

7. Can I get a statement?

Monthly statements are provided free of charge.  You have the option to decline receiving monthly statements if desired.

8. Can I transfer my transponder from one vehicle to another?

No, the transponder is registered to one vehicle and must be permanently affixed to that vehicle. If a transponder is transferred an incorrect reading can occur or when you receive your itemized statement you will not get an accurate reading of your bridge crossings.
